Leaves fall in several ways

Hey all! Thanks for making it back here. 😉 I have a swatch and some lazy nail art today. Let’s jump right in.

ibel1

Did I have a nail break? Nope. My left hand is both my swatching hand and my dominant hand, and my nails had gotten so long that I couldn’t hold a pen without stabbing myself in the palm! So I trimmed these bad boys and tried a bit of a different shape. I celebrated with three coats of Indigo Bananas Enchanted Lake, a deep forest green jelly packed with iridescent flakes. It truly does look like you’re staring at the surface of a calm, dark lake with fallen leaves floating in it! I dug this a lot.

deliassilverfoil

Enchanted Lake reminded me that I had an entire collection of jelly toppers from Essie that I hadn’t so much as touched, so I decided to a blingy jelly manicure in the same style as my rainbow pride nails. This time I started with a base of dELiAs Silver (talk about a throwback!). This is an incredibly shiny silver foil, similar to Zoya’s Trixie although I don’t have that to do a comparison. Any silver would do, but this is what I had on hand.

fmlaxhubbahubble1

I topped that with a generous coat of Formula X Hubba Hubble, a mix of chunky holographic hex glitters in a clear base. This may have actually been two coats, I don’t quite remember.

blueombre1

I topped that with Essie Pen & Inky, with a gradient of Essie No Shrinking Violet, a teal and purple jelly respectively. These are both from the Essie Silk Watercolor collection, which is similar in concept to OPI’s Color Paints, which I already had… but I have no self-control, so I got this collection too. Sue me. 😛

I tried to take this off, but I got frustrated with the tedious removal process that inevitably follows wearing chunky glitter. So instead, I took the blue and purple jellies off, then went over them with warmer fall tones.

warmombre1

First I put down Essie Highest Bidder, a fuchsia jelly, and topped that off with Essie Muse, Myself, a yellow jelly, in an attempt to make my nails look as close to red as possible. Instead, the jellies went on slightly patchy, which gave them this amazing fall-leaf look—at least that’s what I think they look like! So I bought myself a few extra days of not having to take all this crap off my nails, haha. 😛

I hope you guys enjoyed this wordy as hell blog post, haha. Thanks for reading. ❤

Vamp Nails for Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I’ve been slacking on getting posts up over here—school’s been a little rougher than I anticipated—but I have tons of swatches that are ready to go.

I’ve been trying to post all my manicures in the order in which they were worn, but holidays are always a fun little exception.

halloweennails16a

I didn’t do much in the way of Halloween manicures this year—in fact, this is the only one. It’s identical to what I wore on Halloween last year, which I regrettably didn’t get a picture of before all of my false nails popped off, haha. (Joke’s on me, because now my natural nails are longer than my falsies were. :P) This is a base of China Glaze Liquid Leather, topped with a simple gradient of Color Club Art of Seduction.

Art of Seduction is a gorgeous full-coverage red metallic microglitter. I wore it earlier this year as an accent nail for a Valentine’s Day manicure, and it was completely opaque in just two coats! If you can find it, pick this beaut up because she’s worth it.

I hope y’all have wonderful night of spooks and frights! And lots of candy. 😉

Tiffany

Happy Monday, everybody!! 😛

I went to a party with a theme of Tiffany Blue. Me, being the incredibly predictable person I am, decided that I should do some simple nail art to follow suit!

tiffnails

I did a ruffian manicure in Tiffany colors for the event. I started with a base of Sally Hansen White On, then carefully painted China Glaze For Audrey (supposedly the perfect Tiffany blue!) overtop, attempting to follow the shape of my cuticle. It’s not perfect, but it worked for what I needed it for. For Audrey was super opaque, I only needed one coat of it if I remember correctly.

And… that’s it! I don’t generally like to lump nail art pictures in with swatches, so it’s just a short post today. Thanks for reading! ❤

Rainbows on Rainbows on Rainbows

I redid my rainbow nails to attend NY Pride! Let’s take a look.

pride16a

As with last time, I started with a base of OPI Silver Canvas. Unlike last time, where I topped that with Essie Set In Stones, I opted for a holographic chunky glitter to really make this thing rainbow! This one is Formula X Hubba Hubble, which dries slightly textured but has good distribution in one coat. Then I sponged on OPI Magenta Muse, OPI Primarily Yellow, OPI Turquoise Aesthetic, and OPI Purple Perspective again, to create the rainbow gradient. On top of that is one coat of Salon Perfect Cosmic Dust, for more rainbows, because go big or go home.

I wish this had photographed better. Oh well. 😦

Jade and Mermaids

Hey all, welcome back to my little corner of the internet! I have some lazy nail art for you today, which is obviously the best kind.

africanjade1

I’ve finally discovered the magic of nail foils! I got this and several other designs from Dollar Nail Art where, as you may have gathered, everything is one dollar. This one is African Jade, a metallic gold design with a jade green pattern running throughout. I put this over one coat of Sally Hansen Liquid Gold to hide any spaces where the foil may not have applied properly—though thankfully it didn’t look like I needed it.

Nail foils will crack and shrink under any sort of clear polish or topcoat. You can protect them with a water-based polish, like the Aqua Base produced by Nfu Oh. I don’t have that, so I opted for Mod Podge, a water-based craft varnish. You can get a small bottle that’ll last you basically forever for under two dollars from any craft store. It applies a little weird, much like glue, but you can smooth it out with a coat of topcoat over it and make it nice and shiny!

afjatipwear

This was the extent of my tipwear after my first full day of wear—pretty good for a transfer foil!

mermscale1

My next look is this mermaid scale design. I started yet again with a base of China Glaze Up All Night, a dark midnight blue with cobalt shimmer. It covers in one coat, which is perfect for using under many layers of polish. I added a lazy brushed-on “gradient” with Kiko Nail Lacquer 527, which I’ve swatched on its own before.

mermscale2

Next I went over the nail with a coat of one of my favorite toppersMaybelline Color Show Crystal Disguise, a light blue shimmer, and I topped everything off with Nfu Oh 54 and its magical, magical blue to green shifting flakies. This was a mystical, aquatic-looking design that was perfect for frolicking with the sharks at the aquarium. 😀

That’s everything for now! Thanks for swingin’ by and reading my not-entirely-coherent babbling. Catch ya next time!

Magic Rainbow Cake!

Happy birthday to meeeeee! 😀

I did my nails twice today, because rules are a human construct and I’m an anarchist.

bday16a

Birthday cake!!! I used two of my favorite polishes for this mani, Spellbound Nails Upelkuchen for the cake batter base and the oh-so-yummy Essie Mink Muffs for the chocolate icing.

boiibldfld1

Then for the second mani, I started with a base of Boii Cosmetics Blindfolded. I’m pretty disappointed with this one, as the coppery-red shimmer that was so apparent in the photos on Boii’s website is hardly visible in this at all—I purchased this to satisfy my lemming for OPI Peel Me A Gobi Grape and I was left severely wanting. I might have gotten a bad bottle, and to be completely fair, I didn’t bother trying to return this for a refund. But its formula was flawless and it covered in one coat, so I’ll definitely give it due credit there!

nfuoh51a

Then I threw on one of my holy grail polishes, Nfu Oh 51. This is the ultimate in classic color-shifting pigments and flakies. Shown is one coat over Blindfolded.

nfuoh51b

Its color-shifting pigments and flakies go all the way from red, to gold, to green, to blue depending on the angle of the light. It’s always difficult to catch photographs of the shift! One day I’ll perfect my methods, haha.

nfuoh51c

nfuoh51d

I feel like you could franken this by combining Girly Bits Shift Happens, Girly Bits Thud!, and a purple jelly. Someone should try it!

That’s it for today! Thanks for swingin’ by. I’m gonna go have some real birthday cake now. 😀

Rainbow Nails!

Hello everyone! I did the following manicure a few weeks ago, but I figured I’d save it for today, the first day of June. It’s the month of my birthday, so I’m already pretty pumped, but of way more importance is the fact that it’s LGBTQ Pride month!! It’s an exciting time of year. 😀

rnbw1

Okay, let’s get through this list of polishes used… Get out your notebooks! As a base, I have OPI Silver Canvas. The silver glitter is Essie Set In Stones, which gives it a little more sparkle and personality. I sponged on a gradient with a few of the OPI Color Paints, which were OPI Magenta Muse, OPI Primarily Yellow, OPI Turquoise Aesthetic, and OPI Purple Perspective, and the blend formed a perfect rainbow!

rnbw2

I loved how jewel-toned and gel-like this looked, it had so much depth. I’ll have to play around with the Color Paints collection more in the future since it’s so versatile.

That’s it for now! Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful month. 🙂
