It is what it is

“I’m going to start updating consistently!” she said, before promptly disappearing for months. Oops.

I’ve actually been updating my Instagram this whole time because it’s easier for me. Writing posts for each manicure I was doing was just so exhausting because I was hit with The Depression fairly badly a few months back. But I’m doing okay now! You know, relatively.

I’m just going to put all of my manicures from the last few months together into maybe three or four posts over the next few days, and keep the descriptions basic and not ramble as I’m known to do.

nwpcealison1

Two coats of Native War Paints Classic Essentials Alison, a periwinkle grey with silver shimmer.  The formula and brush on this were fantastic, it basically painted itself on.

essievirsno1

Essie Virgin Snow, a periwinkle bordering on lavender, opaque in 2-3 coats depending on your application. This is probably one of my top ten favorite shades in my collection, and you guys seem to agree with me because this was my most popular post on Instagram ever!

cblttls

Two coats of Colors by Llarowe Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. This is a navy jelly with tiny silver microglitter. This is just about an exact dupe for the original Essie Starry Starry Night! Formula was easy to apply, although I did get those little tacky, stringy things on the tips of my nails that you sometimes get with jelly polishes.

zoyamer1

Two coats of Zoya Merida, a forest green packed with silver holographic flakies. Formula on this was excellent, as is typical of Zoya.

zoyayaraziv

My pointer, middle, and pinky fingers have two coats of Zoya Yara, while my ring finger has two coats Zoya Ziv. I thought Ziv would complement the gold shimmer in Yara, and I was right! I felt very chic in this mani.

rhbmxoxo1

I wore this manicure close to Valentine’s Day. This is Rainbow Honey Be Mine, topped with Rainbow Honey XOXO.

opimfmmshsl1

And this is what I actually wore on Valentine’s Day! I put down three thin coats of OPI Mimosas For Mr. And Mrs., and topped it with a glitter gradient of Sally Hansen Strobe Light, which I used on its own for an accent nail.

Good to be back. Stay tuned. ❤

Festive Mess ’16

I hope you all had a great Christmas and Yule, and are having a great Hannukah and Kwanzaa! ❤

I celebrated Christmas with my family, and over the last month or so, I wore a few holiday-themed manis that I simply didn’t have time to edit, write a post for, and upload, so I’m dumping them all into one post for your enjoyment. You’re welcome. 😛

nzltl16a.jpg

I was so excited to break out Nine Zero Lacquer Twinkle Lights this year. It’s a silver linear holo with translucent rainbow glitters, and it actually does look like twinkling Christmas lights against snow! Nine Zero’s creator, Jess, came out with a new version of this for this year called Golden Lights; it’s identical to Twinkle Lights, except the base is a gold holo instead of a silver holo. I prefer this version, though. Twinkle Lights is opaque on its own in three coats, but shown is two coats over a silver foil.

zoyaalicia1.jpg

After that I wanted to keep wearing holo, so I threw on three coats of Zoya Alicia. This was released in this year’s fall collection, but it screams “holiday” to me! It’s a clear base that’s densely packed with the same holographic silver shards that are in Dream, Aurora, Storm, Merida, etc., and it has a strong gold flash. This is opaque in three coats.

starsmani1

I wanted to do something a little more complicated, though I wouldn’t quite call this “nail art.” I started with a base of Charming Charlie You Blue Me Away, on my thumb, index and pinky fingers, and dELiAs Silver on my middle and ring fingers. I topped everything with Salon Perfect Cosmic Dust for a bit of holo sparkle. Then I brushed Charming Charlie Seeing Stars onto the same nails that were painted blue. Seeing Stars is a mix of small blue metallic hexes, silver metallic microglitter, and holographic silver star glitters. This looked super wintry and pretty, I liked this mani a lot.

whiteandgold1.jpg

I wanted something a bit warmer, but still wintry, so I came up with this manicure. I put down four thin coats of Nina Ultra Pro Gold Flake Topcoat on my middle and ring fingers—this polish dries down thin, so it felt fine on the nail. It’s a dupe for OPI Goldeneye, and you might be able to still snag this in the sale section at Sally’s Beauty Supply.

On my index finger, pinky, and thumb, I put down a base of Sally Hansen White On, then topped it with OPI Ski Slope Sweetie, a frosty white with gold shimmer. Then I dabbed Ninja Polish Midas Touch, a 24k gold flake topper, onto the cuticle areas of my white nails. This was probably my favorite of the manicures I did.

GE

Unfortunately, I suffered the worst break I’ve had in years and had to trim my nails down to little shorties! But this look was still cute, I think. I skittled China Glaze Ruby Pumps (two coats) and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle (three coats, due to some streaking) onto every other nail. Then I added a coat of Color Club Art of Seduction to my middle finger, and a sparse coat Essie Set In Stones on top of that (with a denser coat going onto my ring finger).

Then I had an even WORSE break, could not bear to see how short my one nail was, and tried to put on acrylics with mixed results.

zoyahonor1.jpg

Thankfully my acrylics look fairly well done in photographs. Less-so in person, though, haha. I decided to try out Zoya Honor, from last year’s Matte Velvet collection. I was surprised at how much I liked this matte—I’ll have to try this again with a glossy topcoat sometime. Two coats made this opaque.

treevomit1.jpg

Finally, we have this mess that is still currently on my nails! I have one coat of b.s.n. Nail Lacquer Midnight Marsh on my index finger, pinky, and thumb, and two coats of OPI Cinnamon Sweet on my middle and ring fingers. I topped Midnight Marsh with Nine Zero Lacquer Stocking Stuffer, a holiday glitter mix, and I topped Cinnamon Sweet with Sally Hansen Eyelet, a mixture of matte white hex glitters in different sizes.

Good on you if you read to this point. Thanks for stopping by!

Some Untrieds and Unnameds

I hope you’re all recovered from your Turkey Day food comas! If you don’t follow my Instagram, here’s what I was sporting that day:

nzlstuffed1

Nine Zero Lacquer Stuffed is essentially the glitter translation of turkey stuffing. It’s kind of my unofficial tradition to wear this on Thanksgiving, and in glitter gradients around the holidays. This is three coats.

But, I generally try to post all my manis in order, so what I have for you today is a bunch of swatches of brands I’ve owned for a while but never tried.

vcbccc1

First I have Vernis Classique by Cherimoya Chocolate Cherry, a metallic that’s a bit hard to describe. I loved the color in the bottle, but I decided to destash this immediately after wearing it. Those streaks and I were not getting along At. All. This is opaque in three coats, due to aforementioned streaking.

vcbccof1

Next I have Vernis Classique by Cherimoya Coffee, a cool-toned, dark, dusty pink with muted silver shimmer. I’m not sure if that’s a proper description, but that’s what I’ve got. This one was opaque in two coats and was way nicer than Chocolate Cherry.

etc1

I’ve had this set of Ellen Tracy polishes for a while now, as you can see by the state of the bottles. They consist of a scarlet creme, a crimson creme, and a gunmetal foil. None of them have names. The reds seem to be something of a crelly formula and are opaque in two coats, while the silver needs three coats.

Let me know what polishes you guys have had for a long time but have never tried. :O

Vamp Nails for Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I’ve been slacking on getting posts up over here—school’s been a little rougher than I anticipated—but I have tons of swatches that are ready to go.

I’ve been trying to post all my manicures in the order in which they were worn, but holidays are always a fun little exception.

halloweennails16a

I didn’t do much in the way of Halloween manicures this year—in fact, this is the only one. It’s identical to what I wore on Halloween last year, which I regrettably didn’t get a picture of before all of my false nails popped off, haha. (Joke’s on me, because now my natural nails are longer than my falsies were. :P) This is a base of China Glaze Liquid Leather, topped with a simple gradient of Color Club Art of Seduction.

Art of Seduction is a gorgeous full-coverage red metallic microglitter. I wore it earlier this year as an accent nail for a Valentine’s Day manicure, and it was completely opaque in just two coats! If you can find it, pick this beaut up because she’s worth it.

I hope y’all have wonderful night of spooks and frights! And lots of candy. 😉

Breaking out the gold!

Happy Saint Patty’s Day! Are you all sick of the constant green and gold on this blog yet?

Didn’t think so. 😉

pog1

What you’re seeing is two coats of Revlon Posh, a slightly blue-leaning emerald green creme (although my camera definitely made it look more yellow here than it actually is). This applies like a dream and was very nearly opaque in one coat, and is a gorgeous color. I never say that any nail polish is a “need to have” color, but Posh is honestly so amazing, and Revlon polishes are so affordable and widely available that I think that it’d be a great addition to anyone’s collection. 😀

On top of Posh, I have one coat of Ninja Polish The Midas Touch, a 24k gold flake topper. I figured that, if there was ever a time to break out the gold, today was it, haha.

pog2

On my ring finger, I have an accent nail of CrowsToes Wheeler’s Bag of Gold, which I’m convinced is actually magic. It’s a clear base that’s packed with tiny yellow-leaning gold flakes, and has gold holographic microglitter interspersed throughout. This is opaque in two coat s! That’s insane! The very similar (sans holo glitter) and highly coveted OPI Goldeneye reaches opacity in four. If you’re trying to decide between the two, the CrowsToes polish is definitely more worth your money.

And that’s it! I hope everybody’s having a fun and safe St. Patrick’s Day.

Revlon is available at drugstores and supermarkets like CVS, Shoprite, Walmart, etc. The Midas Touch is currently sold out at Ninja Polish’s website, and I don’t foresee it being restocked anytime soon (I’ve been waiting on a restock of their white gold topper, He Went To Jarred, for a thousand years), but Ellagee has an identical topper for almost exactly the same price. And finally, Wheeler’s Bag of Gold is currently in stock on their website.

Thanks for reading! ❤

St. Holo’s Day

I was really seeing rainbows today with this St. Patrick’s Day mani. 😉

stholosday1

I painted on a base of Nine Zero Lacquer Cat In The Christmas Tree, a pine green jelly base with gold holographic microglitter. It’s two coats for opacity, although in swatch photos I can see some spots that are a little sheer. They weren’t apparent in person, though!

stholosday2

I made a glitter gradient with KBShimmer Sun And Games, a gold holographic microglitter in a clear base. This is super dense! No sponging required with this one.

This manicure basically blinded me, I loved it haha. Thanks for reading!

Feelin’ lucky

Oh man, St. Patrick’s Day is in two days and I was planning to post a manicure for it and I completely forgot! As my mother likes to say, there’s nothing like waiting ‘til the last minute. So here’s something I just slapped together today, haha.

stpm1

I’m a little terrified of using B.S.N. Nail Lacquer Midnight Marsh because it’s a wicked stainer, but it’s just so pretty… And the heavy pigmentation makes it a one-coater. I just have to double up on my base coat when I use this guy, haha. It’s the pine green base on my index, middle, and pinky fingers.

On top of that, I have one coat of Charming Charlie Feeling Lucky, a gorgeous metallic green shredded glitter. It’s almost blindingly blingy! This wasn’t difficult to work with, the glitter pieces needed just a little manipulation once they were on the nail, but I didn’t have to fish with this at all.

stpm2

My accent nail is two coats of Sally Hansen Color Foil Liquid Gold—it’s normally also a one-coater, but there was something funky going on with my base coat that affected it, I think (Nail Life Revitalizer Treatment, since I couldn’t find my Seche Clear).

That’s about everything! Hope you all like this holiday look, haha. Thanks for reading. ❤
