Glitter Toppers

Who doesn’t love glitter toppers? Killjoys, that’s who. And we’re no killjoys here on the world wide web, am I right? Right.

efmaollbtf1

This was a fun one. I topped Essie Find Me An Oasis with Lemming Lacquer Babytown Frolics, from their Archer collection, which has the best names ever. Babytown Frolics is a mix of large circle glitter, square glitter, star glitter, hex glitter, and micro glitter, some holographic and some not, in a clear base. It’s perfect for layering, and I felt this would look cute over a pastel color. I think I was right. 😉 This was one coat, and it didn’t need to be manipulated much if my memory serves me.

Oh gosh. It’s September and I’m only now posting this manicure from St. Patrick’s Day… unless you follow my Instagram, and get all my updates as they happen. 😉 This is Zoya Ivanka topped with Pop-Arazzi Hit The Goldmine, a gold metallic microglitter. This was so, so blingy and eyecatching! The gold glitter and gold glass fleck shimmer play off of each other and shine so bright.

Thanks for stopping by, come back for more very soon. 🙂

Festive Mess ’16

I hope you all had a great Christmas and Yule, and are having a great Hannukah and Kwanzaa! ❤

I celebrated Christmas with my family, and over the last month or so, I wore a few holiday-themed manis that I simply didn’t have time to edit, write a post for, and upload, so I’m dumping them all into one post for your enjoyment. You’re welcome. 😛

nzltl16a.jpg

I was so excited to break out Nine Zero Lacquer Twinkle Lights this year. It’s a silver linear holo with translucent rainbow glitters, and it actually does look like twinkling Christmas lights against snow! Nine Zero’s creator, Jess, came out with a new version of this for this year called Golden Lights; it’s identical to Twinkle Lights, except the base is a gold holo instead of a silver holo. I prefer this version, though. Twinkle Lights is opaque on its own in three coats, but shown is two coats over a silver foil.

zoyaalicia1.jpg

After that I wanted to keep wearing holo, so I threw on three coats of Zoya Alicia. This was released in this year’s fall collection, but it screams “holiday” to me! It’s a clear base that’s densely packed with the same holographic silver shards that are in Dream, Aurora, Storm, Merida, etc., and it has a strong gold flash. This is opaque in three coats.

starsmani1

I wanted to do something a little more complicated, though I wouldn’t quite call this “nail art.” I started with a base of Charming Charlie You Blue Me Away, on my thumb, index and pinky fingers, and dELiAs Silver on my middle and ring fingers. I topped everything with Salon Perfect Cosmic Dust for a bit of holo sparkle. Then I brushed Charming Charlie Seeing Stars onto the same nails that were painted blue. Seeing Stars is a mix of small blue metallic hexes, silver metallic microglitter, and holographic silver star glitters. This looked super wintry and pretty, I liked this mani a lot.

whiteandgold1.jpg

I wanted something a bit warmer, but still wintry, so I came up with this manicure. I put down four thin coats of Nina Ultra Pro Gold Flake Topcoat on my middle and ring fingers—this polish dries down thin, so it felt fine on the nail. It’s a dupe for OPI Goldeneye, and you might be able to still snag this in the sale section at Sally’s Beauty Supply.

On my index finger, pinky, and thumb, I put down a base of Sally Hansen White On, then topped it with OPI Ski Slope Sweetie, a frosty white with gold shimmer. Then I dabbed Ninja Polish Midas Touch, a 24k gold flake topper, onto the cuticle areas of my white nails. This was probably my favorite of the manicures I did.

Unfortunately, I suffered the worst break I’ve had in years and had to trim my nails down to little shorties! But this look was still cute, I think. I skittled China Glaze Ruby Pumps (two coats) and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle (three coats, due to some streaking) onto every other nail. Then I added a coat of Color Club Art of Seduction to my middle finger, and a sparse coat Essie Set In Stones on top of that (with a denser coat going onto my ring finger).

Then I had an even WORSE break, could not bear to see how short my one nail was, and tried to put on acrylics with mixed results.

zoyahonor1.jpg

Thankfully my acrylics look fairly well done in photographs. Less-so in person, though, haha. I decided to try out Zoya Honor, from last year’s Matte Velvet collection. I was surprised at how much I liked this matte—I’ll have to try this again with a glossy topcoat sometime. Two coats made this opaque.

treevomit1.jpg

Finally, we have this mess that is still currently on my nails! I have one coat of b.s.n. Nail Lacquer Midnight Marsh on my index finger, pinky, and thumb, and two coats of OPI Cinnamon Sweet on my middle and ring fingers. I topped Midnight Marsh with Nine Zero Lacquer Stocking Stuffer, a holiday glitter mix, and I topped Cinnamon Sweet with Sally Hansen Eyelet, a mixture of matte white hex glitters in different sizes.

Good on you if you read to this point. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m on Sapphire

Guys guys guys, look at this.

nzlsap1

This is Nine Zero Lacquer Sapphire, from the Accent Glitters collection. It’s a stunning blue holographic full-coverage glitter. This is intensely sparkly and beautiful in-person. Sadly, the Accent Glitters collection was limited edition, but a dupe of this exists in Painted Polish By Lexi’s Stoned on Sapphire.

But for the love of everything, use a peel-off basecoat with this. 😉

I have a huge page of swatches coming up, so stay tuned.

Leaves fall in several ways

Hey all! Thanks for making it back here. 😉 I have a swatch and some lazy nail art today. Let’s jump right in.

ibel1

Did I have a nail break? Nope. My left hand is both my swatching hand and my dominant hand, and my nails had gotten so long that I couldn’t hold a pen without stabbing myself in the palm! So I trimmed these bad boys and tried a bit of a different shape. I celebrated with three coats of Indigo Bananas Enchanted Lake, a deep forest green jelly packed with iridescent flakes. It truly does look like you’re staring at the surface of a calm, dark lake with fallen leaves floating in it! I dug this a lot.

deliassilverfoil

Enchanted Lake reminded me that I had an entire collection of jelly toppers from Essie that I hadn’t so much as touched, so I decided to a blingy jelly manicure in the same style as my rainbow pride nails. This time I started with a base of dELiAs Silver (talk about a throwback!). This is an incredibly shiny silver foil, similar to Zoya’s Trixie although I don’t have that to do a comparison. Any silver would do, but this is what I had on hand.

fmlaxhubbahubble1

I topped that with a generous coat of Formula X Hubba Hubble, a mix of chunky holographic hex glitters in a clear base. This may have actually been two coats, I don’t quite remember.

blueombre1

I topped that with Essie Pen & Inky, with a gradient of Essie No Shrinking Violet, a teal and purple jelly respectively. These are both from the Essie Silk Watercolor collection, which is similar in concept to OPI’s Color Paints, which I already had… but I have no self-control, so I got this collection too. Sue me. 😛

I tried to take this off, but I got frustrated with the tedious removal process that inevitably follows wearing chunky glitter. So instead, I took the blue and purple jellies off, then went over them with warmer fall tones.

warmombre1

First I put down Essie Highest Bidder, a fuchsia jelly, and topped that off with Essie Muse, Myself, a yellow jelly, in an attempt to make my nails look as close to red as possible. Instead, the jellies went on slightly patchy, which gave them this amazing fall-leaf look—at least that’s what I think they look like! So I bought myself a few extra days of not having to take all this crap off my nails, haha. 😛

I hope you guys enjoyed this wordy as hell blog post, haha. Thanks for reading. ❤

Vamp Nails for Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I’ve been slacking on getting posts up over here—school’s been a little rougher than I anticipated—but I have tons of swatches that are ready to go.

I’ve been trying to post all my manicures in the order in which they were worn, but holidays are always a fun little exception.

halloweennails16a

I didn’t do much in the way of Halloween manicures this year—in fact, this is the only one. It’s identical to what I wore on Halloween last year, which I regrettably didn’t get a picture of before all of my false nails popped off, haha. (Joke’s on me, because now my natural nails are longer than my falsies were. :P) This is a base of China Glaze Liquid Leather, topped with a simple gradient of Color Club Art of Seduction.

Art of Seduction is a gorgeous full-coverage red metallic microglitter. I wore it earlier this year as an accent nail for a Valentine’s Day manicure, and it was completely opaque in just two coats! If you can find it, pick this beaut up because she’s worth it.

I hope y’all have wonderful night of spooks and frights! And lots of candy. 😉

Neon Egg Hunt

Y’all, I’m running out of titles for these things. Usually I’ll just string together words from the names of whatever polishes I have in these weird mish-mash swatch posts, but… I can only produce so much nonsense, y’know?

elljeh1

This beauty is Ellagee Jeweled Egg Hunt, a clear base packed with gold holo microglitter, and fuchsia and pink holo hexes. Two coats is probably fine for most people, and is what’s pictured in my swatch, but three coats would be needed to totally fill in the spots between  the glitters. This was a little thick, as is expected with dense glitter polishes, but I didn’t have any trouble painting it on. This was so sparkly and magnificent!

spyy1

Did I mention that these were taken during the tail-end of summer? haha. My swatch shows a white base with two coats of Salon Perfect Yowza Yellow on top. This thing is blinding! It’s a perfect highlighter yellow. This was my first time using a proper neon, so I can’t speak for how the formula compares to other neons—neons are known to be tricky to use. I had quite a bit of bubbling with this (a few hours after taking the swatch photos), but I think that was because of my application rather than the polish itself.

spcopag1

And this is Salon Perfect Copacabana Girl, also two coats over a white base. It’s a warm-toned hot pink neon with a subtle pink shimmer running through it. My poor camera never had a chance with this one. I enjoyed the hell out of the Salon Perfect neons this summer, they surprised me a lot.

That’s everything for now! Thanks for reading.

Glitter S’more Amulet

Holy moly look at how beautiful this is!

pskhepri1

This is Pretty Serious Khepri’s Amulet, a teal base with an incredibly strong green shimmer. The formula on this was flawless, and it’s opaque in two coats. You can see my nail line in these photos under direct lighting, but it wasn’t visible in person.

pskhepri2

This was a lemming of mine for a loooong time, and I’m so pleased with it now that I’ve got it.

nzlsmore

Next I have a beautiful pink-toned taupe linear holo, Nine Zero Lacquer S’more Holo. I expect to wear this a lot this fall! Two coats makes it opaque, though the formula is pretty thick and a little tricky to use. A little polish thinner should make this perfect, though.

nzlscggmt

I topped this off with China Glaze Glitter Me This. It’s a little weird to top a holo with non-holo glitter, but S’more Holo is subdued enough that it still looks okay. I think this is a great combination, personally.

That’s all for now! Later, friendos.
