Bow Massacre

All I have in my photo buffer is nail art! So I hope you guys don’t mind it.

I started with two coats of OPI Italian Love Affair. It’s a cute blush pink with a hint of pearlescent shimmer; I need to swatch it on its own someday. Then I layered Color Club Snow-Flakes (the new, non-rainbow flakie formula that makes my soul weep) over it to break it up a little.

Then I painted China Glaze White On White in a diagonal line across my nails. I needed to do this twice to make it fully opaque. Then I used a thin nail art brush and China Glaze Liquid Leather to paint the black line across, and the bows themselves.

I tried to make these look a little more interesting by putting tiny black nail art studs from Born Pretty Store on the center of each bow, but you can barely see them in the pictures and you couldn’t see them at all in real life! So I ended up just holding my hands up to people and going “TOUCH MY NAILS. FEEL MY ARTWORK.” They didn’t appreciate it.

So even though they were, uh… a little sloppy, I actually got a few compliments on them. And I appreciated that, because the validation of strangers fuels me – it’s like my coffee.

Thanks for stopping by!

Minimal

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I find it pretty difficult to do nail art because my hands shake a lot. (Talk about picking the wrong hobby. :P) But this design was easy and fun because of how simple it is.

I started with one coat of Sally Hansen Color Foil Liquid Gold, let it dry, then painted over it with China Glaze Liquid Leather while being sure to leave some gold showing around the cuticles. I added a stud I bought from Born Pretty Store for some pop. 😀

I have an aaaaawful headache/dizziness at the time of typing and posting this, so I hope I’m actually coherent!

SFX Topcoat Love

Effects topcoats are SO FRICKIN’ RAD, AM I RIGHT? I’m going to assume that you all said yes, because they are. This is good. I like when we’re all in hypothetical agreement.

This is gonna be a pretty long, image-heavy post, so hold on to your figurative and/or literal hats!

hmmp1

Let’s start with, not an effects topcoat, but two buttery, shiny, perfectly smooth coats of H&M Midnight Passion.

Sigh. It’s just so perfect. I almost feel bad to cover it up!

hmmpo1

Almost.

It’d be lovely to wear on its own, but this time I topped it with Orly Fifty Four. This was two coats, if I recall correctly. I’m pretty pleased with it. I’ll probably use it on a green or some sort of cool color next time, I imagine that would look quite nice.

Next I have two coats of Finger Paints Urban Lights. I’m not usually a fan of almost-black colors, but I was quite happy with this one. And the color shift between purple and blue actually shows up surprisingly well on the nail.

I took lots of pictures of this one to make sure I got the full shift. 😀

Then I learned that it’s better not to ruin it if you’ve got something good going. 😦

I’ll give this one very bubbly coat of Jordana Ocean Frost a pass because this bottle’s probably over a decade old and my application wasn’t great. And don’t get me wrong, I love the color and sheen, but I think I prefer Urban Lights on its own. Ocean Frost would probably look great over a lighter color, like maybe a lavender or a lighter blue.

And last, but certainly not least, is China Glaze I Sea The Point topped with the magical rainbow glory that is Girly Bits Shift Happens!

I failed to get any shots of I Sea The Point on its own (d’oh!), but it’s so pretty with Shift Happens on it that I kind of don’t care, haha. I wore this as a manicure to work and I got loads of compliments on it. 😀

I’m so in love with effects toppers that I think I have more of them than solid colors to layer them over. Oops!

Birthday Nails!!

It’s my birthday and I did nail art that actually looks kinda nice!!! Oh gosh.

On my pinkie, index finger, and thumb I used Rainbow Honey Kawako. It’s a shimmery midnight blue with tiny silver flecks in it. It has a similar look to Essie Starry Starry Night, I think! Very cool.

My middle and ring fingers have one gorgeous glassy coat of China Glaze Up All Night, which I am in love with. It looks almost lit from within and is such a beautiful dark blue. It makes me think of stained glass. I’ll definitely need to swatch this on its own at some point.

I got a few stamping plates with lacy/flowery looking designs on them from Born Pretty Store. I used one image from plate Y003 here. I don’t have stamping polish, but I have the plates and I was way too excited to wait for anything to be shipped! I stamped with Wet n’ Wild Metallica (which a quick look online says is fairly popular for stamping—I just happened to have it!).

The metallic tape is from Sally’s, but you can get it pretty much anywhere, including Born Pretty Store.

I hope you guys like my birthday manicure as much as I do! 😀

Interrupting Babies!

I’m gonna make a bit of a personal post… mostly as an excuse to gratuitously show off my babies. They’re very precious to me, and I think they fall under the category of “pretty things.” Or cute things. But that’s close enough.

This is my pretty kitty, Duchess. I’m convinced she’s Jane Seymour’s secret animal form, because neither of them age. Duchess is seventeen, which is pretty old for a cat, but you’d never know by looking at her! And she has no major health problems. She’s probably going to outlive me. :B

She likes plants as much as I do. But she mostly likes to just chew on them…

She’s a fluffy old grandma and I love her.

Mia’s my daughter. She’s half Pomeranian, and half Pekingese, which gives her her floppy ears and snaggleteeth. I love her snaggleteeth. They make her look like a fuzzy reverse vampire.

Sometimes she can look really majestic…

But she mostly looks like a huge goofball all the time. She’s not very smart, but I love her.

I got her groomed for the summer about two months ago, so this is what she looks like right now. She’s not too happy about her haircut.

I’m thinking of sharing some photos of my garden soon too, but I didn’t want this post to be too terribly long. I’ll leave it at this for now. 🙂

Mystery! Intrigue! Suspense!

Are any of these polishes named? Nope. Do they have a brand name on them? Nope. Do I have the foggiest memory of where I might have acquired them? Kind of. Do I know other people who have this exact same, strangely unnamed set? Yes, which is a little weird!

The first color is a squishy, jellyish red with pink shimmer and teeeeny itty bitty gold flakes. I don’t gravitate towards this type of red at all, but I kind of dig this shade. Two coats.

Next is a cute raspberry color. It becomes brighter and more saturated on the nail than it looks in the bottle, which is interesting—normally it’s the opposite! This also has tiny little gold flakes that, like in the red, borders on being too small for flakes but too big for shimmer. I like this one too! Two coats as well.

This is an interesting color. It’s like a foily, dusty brown. It’s pretty sheer, which is usually fine for me since I rarely have a visible nail line anyway. This is two layers.

Last is my favorite! It’s a cute peachy pink color with lots of gold shimmer. I forgot I had this color and nearly bought a dupe or two, haha. It’s kind of similar to FingerPaints Peach Beach Scene but this one is way more interesting, in my opinion.

Does anyone else have this set or one like it? I no longer have the original packaging, but I’d like to know where it came from!
