Yoga in the Garden

Ah, hm. So yeah, this manicure isn’t my best.

GE

Again, I tried putting on my own nail tips with hilarious results. But at least it’s not as bad as the last time I tried, but… I’m still not watermarking these, haha.

GE

The color, however, is magical. This is two coats of OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue!.

GE

I don’t quite know how to describe this color! It’s metallic but shimmery but also has the sliiiightest hint of green duochrome shift? It’s gorgeous.

GE

I topped it off with Finger Paints Daubigny’s Garden, a rainbow color-shifting glitter topper. It has hex glitters in small and large sizes. I’m not sure about the base itself—to me, it looks to be slightly blue tinted, but I’ve read that it’s actually clear. Either way, I paired it with a blue, just to be safe.

I think this is what Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black would look like if the glitters were suspended in a clear base rather than a black jelly, although the shift in Daubigny’s Garden is a little less dramatic.

I was pleased with the polish combination, but… I did end up taking this off shortly after snapping these photos, just because the nail tips I put on looked so dang bad. Maybe one of these days I’ll bite the bullet and get my nails done professionally, haha.

Cosmic Film

It came to my attention that my polish collection was sorely lacking in both neutral cremes and Essie polishes. Luckily, it was easy to kill two birds with one stone. [Disclaimer: No birds were harmed in the making of this post. They’re just a little annoyed with me.]

GE

This loveliness pictured here is Essie No More Film. It’s a sort of dusty blue-leaning plum color? It’s hard to describe. But it’s such a unique shade, I really enjoy it a lot. In real life, the color’s a smidge less blue and more purple than in my photos.

This was two coats, which were a bit tacky (I think this bottle had been on the store shelf for a while, truth be told), which would have been fine on its own, but it became kind of a mess in conjunction with that weird, tiny brush! What is up with that? It’s so small! I feel like more people like smaller brushes, but… I just had such a hard time with it! 😦

And then the flakies attacked.

This is Revlon Cosmic Flakies, and is one of the more unique flakie polishes I’ve seen among large cosmetic companies (indie brands tend to have way more impressive flakie polishes). The flakes have a color shift, from green to blue to orange, which I was really happy with. It got me a lot of compliments, too. 😀

Cosmic Flakies was relatively easy to apply. I only needed one coat, with some dabbing and a little painting. I didn’t have very much trouble with flakes hanging off the end of the nail or anything like that, if I recall correctly.

Lots of photos here! I wanted to make sure I got all of Cosmic Flakies’ color shifts. I think I got them all!

I’m not sure if it was necessary, but I did put a coat of Gelous on here before I added topcoat, just to make sure everything was smooth. Mylar flakes (at least I think these are mylar) tend to lift up a little and make topcoat uneven.

Boy am I using a lot of parentheses. Hm.

Hard Candy and Eternal Darkness

It’s that time of year where the sun is out for maybe fifteen minutes a day, it’s always snowing, and you start to wonder if it will ever be warm again.

That being said, I’m sorry for all the downtime I’ve had recently! There simply hasn’t been enough sunlight for me to get decent pictures. There isn’t any other way for me to get good lighting in my photos since I moved to my apartment. But spring will be here soon, and the sun will be shining, and I can get some good pictures! At least, in theory…

I picked up a couple of Hard Candy polishes a few months ago, so I thought it was high time I actually wore them. This is Hard Candy Touch of Teal, a sparkly teal with pink to yellow duochrome shimmer.

GE

It was a smidge sheer. This was two coats, but I probably could have used a third.

GE

It’s a very cute, sparkly color, but I’m a little disappointed with it—you can’t see the color shift at all when this is on your nail! 😦

And this is Hard Candy Bitty Blue. It’s essentially the same thing.

Again, you can’t see the color shift at all when you’re wearing this, but… I have to say, I really loved it anyway! This color’s very attention-grabbing. I was just going to swatch it and take it off, but I decided at the last second to wear it as a mani, and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would!

These are both sheer enough that you could layer one coat over black and have a cool glittery effect, I think. 😀
